For like-minded, mountain loving ramblers, scramblers & danglers

Not Sierra Nevada but interesting nevertheless. I was asked last night whether you should use the cable to cross the Grand Couloir on the Mont Blanc normal ascent route. I said "NO, never". This is the reason why. The guy is left dangling in space playing russian roulette with the stonefall!

Think through what would happen if 1 person was taken out by a rock on a rope of 2 or 3. How would those remaining on the rope rescue the situation?

Isn't the problem that the 'attachment' is too short or not adjustable ?

He was lucky to get thus far; sliding across the fixed-cable. Because the cable is also damaged in numerous places, sliding karabiners tend to jam on the burrs of metal created. Luck man... never used the cable since it was first introduced many years ago, seen lots of similar antics though.
